What is intentionality? It is simply the state of being purposeful and intentional about your thoughts and actions.
Every moment, each of us is being pulled in a million directions by our phones, computers, the people around us, televisions, the pile of papers stacked up on the table, or any number of other things. It’s easy to get pulled around by the whims of whatever catches our attention most insistently.
However, that’s not the most productive way to live and quickly leads to exhaustion and frustration. Changing your mindset to one of intentionality gives you freedom from the constant noise of life.
Before you start creating your intentionality mindset, take a few minutes to complete the exercise below and find your top intentions for this upcoming year. You can come back and go through the form again at any time if your focus has changed.
Now that you know what your top intentions are, how do you go about applying the right mindset? It’s all about making choices that align with your intentions.
For example, if one of your intentions is to be more physically fit and healthy, you face decisions as soon as you wake up. Do you sleep in an extra 30 minutes, or get up and do a yoga routine in the living room before work? Should you make a microwave meal for dinner or cook something with fresh foods? When you know what your intentions are, it's easier to make decisions that will help you reach your goals.
To help keep yourself accountable, take a few minutes at the end of every day and write down in a journal the decisions you made and actions you took during the day that aligned with your intentions. This will help you see where your points of decision are and serve as a reminder of how much progress you’ve made.
If you are feeling frustrated or lost this year, come back to your intentions to help you refocus. You may need to go through the exercise again because your priorities can change over time.
Living with intentionality means every action you take helps you become the best version of yourself. Tomorrow is the halfway point of the 10 Days to Your Best Year Ever program. Join me tomorrow as we focus on growth.
